Stone Steps & Walkways
Steps are the one piece of masonry your family uses every single day, in the dark, in the rain, carrying groceries. We build them with consistent riser heights, proper tread depth, pitch that sheds water, and footings that don't move. A step that shifts half an inch is a step somebody trips on.
Bluestone and granite entry steps
Thermal bluestone treads on a masonry base and solid granite steps are the standards for Connecticut front entries. They look right on every style of house here and they wear for generations. We set them level, pitch them slightly to drain, and pin and mortar them so winter doesn't walk them out of position.
Walkways that follow how you actually walk
A good walkway follows the path people take, at a width two people can use, with a surface that stays even. We build them in bluestone, pavers, and natural flagging on the same compacted base as our patios. No stepping stones sinking into the lawn by spring.
Step rebuilds and safety fixes
Rocking treads, open joints, crumbling brick cheeks: entry steps take the worst of the weather and the salt. We rebuild failed steps and reset loose treads before someone gets hurt, and we match existing stone and mortar so the repair doesn't announce itself.
Steps & Walkways questions, answered
What riser height do you build to?
Even and code compliant. The number that matters most is that every riser in the run matches. Inconsistent risers are the number one trip hazard we correct on rebuilds.
Can you match my existing stone?
Usually, yes. Bluestone and granite are consistent enough to blend, and for older brick and mortar we match size, color, and joint profile so a repair reads as original.
