Chimney & Fireplace Masonry

Almost every chimney problem is a water problem. A cracked crown or open mortar joints let water into the brick, and freeze-thaw does the demolition from there. We repair crowns, repoint joints, replace spalled brick, and rebuild from the roofline up when the stack is too far gone. And we show you photos of what we found, because you can't see your own chimney top.

Crowns, caps, and repointing

The crown is the concrete top that sheds water off the stack. When it cracks, the chimney soaks. We cast proper overhanging crowns with drip edges, repoint eroded joints with mortar matched to the original, and replace individual spalled brick so the repair blends.

Rebuilds, refacing, and fireplaces

When brick faces are popping across the stack, repointing is a bandage. We rebuild chimneys from the roofline or the shoulder up, matching brick where the lower stack stays. We also reface dated fireplaces and chimney exteriors in stone veneer or new brick, and build new outdoor fireplaces and fire features.

What we don't do

We're masons: structure, brick, stone, crowns, and mortar. Flue liners, caps with dampers, and sweep services belong to a licensed chimney service, and we'll tell you when your job needs one alongside the masonry.

Chimney & Fireplace questions, answered

How do I know if my chimney needs repointing or a rebuild?

Rule of thumb from the ground: crumbling joints with solid brick faces usually means repointing. Brick faces popping off across the stack usually means the brick is saturated and a rebuild from the roofline is the honest fix. We confirm from the roof with photos.

Do you rebuild the whole chimney?

Rarely necessary. Most rebuilds are roofline up, where the weather exposure is. If the stack below is sound, rebuilding the exposed section is the right scope and the right price.
